Well, it’s that time of year again. Garden is in harvest mode. How to keep all of this can be a daunting ordeal. Having a big freezer helps. We were able to put all of our berries to make jelly in the freezer for awhile. We get to that later.

Waiting for the marinade becomes a bit slow, so any soft in the fridge is always made with bread and butter pickles. They are still too soft. When we got a better harvest dill pickles do. It seems you do not have enough to plant peas this year, so we have to pick and eat them straight from the garden. You can not beat the taste of fresh peas. We planted a little late this year, so our popcorn is just starting to come along. The scarecrows will be keeping the crows away, but it is still possible for the dog’s hair (left over from grooming) down through the garden to keep the raccoons and possums.This is your first time trying this so I hope it works.

Our tomatoes are beautiful this year. I really have to keep pinching the side shoots. We have lots of green tomatoes ready to run. I was ready for hearing. All my jars, lids, and bands are cleaned and ready to go. We make the tomato sauce and salsa this year. I hope we planted enough. I tried a new tomato plant this year called “Juliet”. It’s the same line as “Roma” tomatoes. I thought that was ridiculous, so buy two of each. Juliet plant has surpassed many Romans plant. I was very happy. It also produces a group of tomatoes. Right now I have 6-8 more tomatoes per group (per strain).

Due to our late start, our cucumbers, courgettes and pumpkins are very slow.Hopefully next week we will finally get some of the crop of cukes and zucchini.
